Moving Dirt

By the time it was done, it took 47 yards of dirt, to fill in the backyard, including the ruts left by the big trucks. I can't imagine, finally having a yard that doesn't flood. Well this did make it easy to expand the garden...

Thanks to our neighbor with his inloader, the job was made a lot easier.

It took him two hours the first day and four hours yesterday.

The place where my roses were growing used to be a hump in the yard, maybe caused by where they burned trash or something like that. My solution to the hump was to make a flower garden. I had four shrub roses there, but two were so smashed by the big trucks, I wasn't even able to find where they were.

So, we decided after I moved the two remaining shrub roses and some grasses, that we would just have the neighbor flatten the hump the rest of the way.

Now the shrub roses border the swing on each side with the grasses. I'm still not sure this is the place I should have transplanted the roses- it could be picky as we swing! I would definetly have to keep them pruned.

Jane,
This spring it will be so nice to be able to go all the way back to the back yard without sinking up. Sometimes we were not able to mow back there for weeks.

I'm sure you will enjoy not sinking anymore. Sorry you lost a couple of roses. I think the ones you transplanted are too close to your swing. Roses do need room and you don't want to get pricked by their thorns while swinging.

Have fun and I look forward to seeing how your new gardens progress.

Have a great weekend ~ FlowerLady

Flowerlady,
I hope it's cool there in Florida for you.
I guess you are probabaly right -I leave the roses there for now - transplant again in the spring. Poor things I hope they survive.
You have a great weekend also.

It is nice that you got the work done now as it will give time to all settle out and spring will encourage new grass growth. I hope the water problem is completely stopped.

Wow, that didn't take you long. What a nice project to have out of the way! Now back to the garden planning, right Vickie?

L.D.,
We were kind of lucky with the weather-you can't be 60 degrees in November. Maybe this will stop most of the water.

Sandy,
Garden planning sounds relaxing now-
It wasn't too hard with our nice neighbor helping us though.

Having a good neighbor saved you a lot of work. I also think you shoud move those roses someplace else...

I'm looking forward seeing development of your new garden!

vrtlarica,
I've looked this morning for a new spot for the roses after the flower lady said something too. Something out of the way -I think I've ran out of spots! Maybe by next spring I'll know.

Hello Vickie,

I think having the roses next to the swing will let you enjoy them even more with their beauty and fragrance. I hope all your new dirt will solve your flooding problem :)
